Learning a language is more than the study of nouns and verbs or grammar and syntax. When we explore another language, we embark on a voyage of discovery and transformation. We learn the history of a people, examine their beliefs, and try on their behaviours. When we master another language, we acquire the cultural knowledge, linguistic competencies, and communication skills which enable us to understand, relate to and interact effectively with others. In so doing, we transcend our personal boundaries, and, ultimately, become better leaders.
