Reunion Weekend 2019 – First Year Obstacle Course

The RMC obstacle course is the culmination of the First Year Orientation Program (FYOP) and the official entry of the First Year Class into the Cadet Wing.  The obstacle course consists of twelve obstacles representing each of the College’s twelve squadrons.  Each team is called a “flight”, and the skills and comradery acquired over the intense month of training are put to the test.  Cadets compete on behalf of their squadron for points towards the Commandant’s Cup: a yearlong competition for prestige and pride at the College.

Reunion Weekend 2019 – First Year Coin Presentation

While it may have less fanfare, less coordination and significantly more mud than other such ceremonies, the Coin Ceremony contains an engagement at the individual level, which facilitates its message with impressive efficacy. As the Old Brigadier’s make their way through the sections, shaking hands, presenting coins, and surely remembering what it felt like following the completion of their own obstacle courses, they take the time to speak with the first years. It need not be complicated or lengthy; the simply proffered “congratulations” eloquently expresses the sentiment of the presentation.

RMC celebrates our first-year officer cadets at the Badging Parade. This marks the conclusion of the five-week orientation program, where new officer cadets officially enter into the Cadet Wing after receiving their cap badge from members of the “Old Brigade” – a group of former cadets who entered the College at least 50 years ago.

Reunion Weekend 2019 – Wall of Honour Ceremony

The purpose of the Wall of Honour is to recognize ex-cadets of the Royal Military Colleges (RMC, RRMC, CMR), and others with College numbers, for outstanding achievements and contributions to Canada or the World, and to inspire cadets thereby.

A ceremony is held annually to induct new members onto the Wall of Honour during Reunion Weekend. Inductees are presented with a plaque that remains on the wall. There is a reception that follows the induction ceremony.
